Undertow by SebastianKraus Undertow by SebastianKraus
Another one from the recent Portencross mission with Marek, stormy weather is not easy task to deal with , but some time can give you excellent effect in the end.

The shot:
- Nikon D200
- Sigma 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DC HSM @ 13mm
- 15 seconds @ f/8, ISO100, Manual mode
- Hi-tech ND 0.9 (soft) + ND 1.2 (full)

Processing:
- Slight exposure and WB adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw
- Removed a dust spots
- Shadows/Highlights on Light channel
- Selective Curves and an overall Curves layer
- Curves layers with blend modes for some texture on rock
- Slight colour and contrast boosts on horizon line
- Resized and selectively sharpened for website
- Added a slight vignette
- Add border and signature.

Great shot Sebastian
I see you also use the sigma 10-20 4,5-5,6 lens.
Lately it catches my attention how much sharpness my pictures are lacking when taken with this lens.
I was wondering do you encounter a lot of un-sharpness towards the edges with photo's taken with that lens?
Looking at this picture, it all seems very sharp.
I'm curious

JM

This Sigma is pin sharp on f/8... make sure you put correct point of focus lenght... not to close not too far.

Thanks for sharing Sebastian.
Good to hear you encounter no sharpness issues with the lens.
Yeah, I know about the DOF (I got a very handy little app on my phone :-)...), but still my lens tends to unsharpen quite a lot towards the edges.
Per lens it depends which aperture gives the best results, maybe with this Sigma 10-20 it is ƒ 8.0 ??
Maybe I'll have to do some comparison tests and check that to be certain ... but still ... maybe I just have a bad apple on my camera.
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated!
Regards
JM

YES! And best for Sigma 10-20 is f/8. Just becouse is wide angle sometimes you will catch unsharp object in corners. Use filters in Lightroom to correct this.
